someone I know way overfeeds her bettas, they are much bigger than normal bettas and very beautiful but also cbviously fat. I'd love to have big bettas like this but it must be bad for them to be so fat. any input?

Re: size and overfeeding
Mon, September 11, 2006 - 9:07 AMOverfeeding is horrible. It usually leads to shorter lifespan for various reasons. Some of the reasons include:
-constipation
-obesity
-swim bladder disease
-dropsy
I breed these guys and am quite familiar with their awesome and very effective begging techniques, but you just have to be strong and not give in LOL
I feed my bettas randomly (like in their natural habitat) ...somedays once in the morning or the evening, others both morning and evening, and at least one day nothing at all.
The amount I feed depends on what type of food... 3-4 betta pellets each, 4-6 live worms, 3-4 frozen but thawed bloodworms or brine shrimp or a grape seed size pinch of frozen but thawed daphnia.... EACH fish and ONE of these food types at each meal.
I hope this helps some... -

Re: size and overfeeding
Tue, September 12, 2006 - 3:09 PMthanks for the info. I dont have any little beauties right now but when I did rest assured they were properly fed. I'm moving in the next few months an dont think I'll get any new bettas until after that. had to ask though...
