When it's time to say goodbye?

I have a little male that I've had for nearly a year. Early this year, however, I noticed he got sick. Fin rot... I've been trying to save him for the last several months. A times he seemed to get better. Being more energetic and seem to get his color back. However, no regrowth.

Now it's gotten so bad that he's barely able to move around properly. He has a hard time eating even! He shows the same symptoms I've read in many posts in this tribe, but I feel like he's just pretty much done. (It looks like he's going blind as well!)

So.... my question to you guys. What do you do when it's time to say goodbye? What's the most humane way to put my baby to rest? Cuz it's just KILLING me seeing him like this. And I got him to cheer me up, and not it's the exact opposite.

I'm taking him home this weekend to do what needs to be done.... as soon as I figure out what that is.

Do fish feel pain? Or is it just the fish parent?

OH, that's so sad:-( I hate it when they die - I feel helpless to help them. I've had mine for a little over a year, and I just treated him successfully for ick, but now his belly is growing more and more bloated - I don't know what else to do for him. He is still very active, but he is also looking more grayish and takes rests more often....I'm hoping if he doesn't get over it that he will die quickly rather than suffering. I saw an awful case with a friend where the betta's abdomen burst and it was still swimming around. I just can't stand watching them suffer:-( I was just woondering today how much longe rmine has and if I'll end up having to euthanize - that will be very difficult to do:-(

I think my beta office-mate will be replaced with some kind of plant that doesn't need a lot of light. So I'll need to do research on that.

But I did bring home LL's belongings, and do plan to get a new fish friend. I thin it may just be easier for me to take better care and eye on him or her when they are in my home.

And I already know things I'd do differently. ^^ I'm being told by friends I was a good fish mommy, so I'm trying to remember that. But I still miss the days when he was thriving, and seemed so excited when I came in to the office and settled in and said hello to him.

I'm sure I'll find another beta friend soon enough that I can bond to like that. ^^

Thank you for your condolences. It's much appreciated.
