The bloodworms I bought for my betta come in little frozen cubes. Way too much to feed
one betta. I defrosted most of the cube and then put the remaining cube in the fridge.
Does anyone know if I can use the worms for another feeding once they have been defrosted??
If so, how long can they stay in the fridge. One little cube could last practically a week!
Thanks.

Re: Frozen Bloodworms
Tue, January 30, 2007 - 7:13 AMI always threw out the remaining "thawed" worms cuz I was worried about spoilage and making my fish ill.... when I only had a couple fish. Heh! Now, I have too many and one block is not even enough.
Maybe you could just cut off a small portion of the cube and leave the other frozen portion in an airtight container. I dunno. If it starts to show any deterioration, toss it... I guess. I've done this without ill effects.
Or... you could get MORE FISH! :o) -

Re: Frozen Bloodworms
Wed, February 7, 2007 - 12:44 PMI would assume that the bacterias in the worms function like in normal meat. I wold not recommend more than 5 days if it was meat. A good trick is to smell them when you first defrost then, and then see if the smell changes much. Air them a little before you judge by the smell, wrapped up "meat stuff" smells a lot no matter its good or gone bad. If the smell changes a lot you should toss them. It should also be possible to cut the brick in half while frozen.
Good luck!

Re: Frozen Bloodworms
Fri, March 2, 2007 - 10:32 AMI would second the other people's opinions - I tried the thawing and re-freezing and was fine for about a year - then all of a sudden two separate bettas got sick and died. Actually, now I just use dried blood worms cuz I don't really have time to do the thawing bit, and I don't like the waste of throwing away the whole rest of the cube. cutting it didn't really work for me when I tried....but luckily mine isn't a picky eater.
