I just bought a female bette. Was doing fine but has a hard time swimming and seems to be trying to gulp air. She even pops up out of the water to get air. This morning she was swimming sideways, i thought she was gone. But she is moving, she just has rapid gill movement and not swimming well. Is there anything i can do for her to help or make her more comfortable?? Please help thank you =)

Re: Female betta problem
Fri, July 6, 2007 - 2:50 AMBeta are supposed to get air, they actually have a lung. So her getting air is normal. Swimming on her side
and laboured breathing underwater is not.
I'll ask the basic questions first. Is she in a big enough bowl/tank? Did you get all the appropriate chemicals to
treat her water? If so, were they measured out correctly? Is her water temperature ok? They thrive in warmer water.
Any discoloration, or anything about her that looks odd?
