Re: teeny black things in my beta bowl
Mon, September 18, 2006 - 2:25 PMare the teeny black things moving? are they alive? what else lives with betta kid?
as for betta's tummy being huge and about to explode... umm... this is not a good thing. have you seen him poop recently? could he be constipated? do you feed him freeze dried foods? they are prone to causing constipation in these little guys. (i breed them and have a little bit of experience with them) what , if not freeze dried, do you feed him and how often? -

Re: teeny black things in my beta bowl
Sun, October 1, 2006 - 9:11 PM...yup....the teeny black things were alive and swimming.....but i changed his water and put 3 grains of epsom salts in his water ....they are HISTORY.............
he lives alone................pooping, swimming, racing around, eating, all round active kid......no freeze dried food...i like the pellets and i think the recommended feeding amount is a little high.....i like to give him 2-3 pellets maybe 2-4 times a day.....we visit and talk about the WORLDS PROBLEMS......hey.....maybe that's giving him indigestion !!!!!!!????????
he seems so healthy and active......just has this huge huge tummy....????

Re: teeny black things in my beta bowl
Sun, October 1, 2006 - 9:18 PMsorry i took so long....a little busy here in the jungle..........
.....the problem was that my miny scope just wasn't strong enough to see anything but a blob with some sort of feeler or leg.....so i took him to a sci guy i know.....but it was too late to get a good specimen for the high powered microscope......so i still don't know what they were.....they were pretty active and there were a LOT of them.............changed tank and his water completely ...... i have 3 different tanks i use for him...(you know, to change the furniture around for him)...and the teeny things are gone......and he's really active and eating and everything......it's just that huge tummy....but someone suggested i look into swim bloat....so i'm gonna...........thanks.......

Re: teeny black things in my beta bowl
Mon, September 18, 2006 - 3:00 PMI'm not sure what the black things are.
As far as your betta's stomach, it could be a few things:
1. You're overfeeding his fat ass.
2. If his scales are pushed out like pine cones, he has dropsy
3. Swim bladder disease -
